Tuqiri backs Bennett's rugby frustration
Waratahs winger Lote Tuqiri understands former coach Wayne Bennett's frustrations about him and Wendell Sailor not seeing enough ball in rugby union.
But the former Brisbane Broncos rugby league star concedes there's not a lot he can do about it.
"It's certainly frustrating and I'm sure it would be frustrating for him being our ex-coach," Tuqiri said.
"He (Bennett) knows that we have the potential to run and play the game attackingly.
"What can I say - we are winning games and the teams that we are playing, the forwards are doing their role and rugby is that sort of game - it's tactical and you have to kick a lot more and there's more stoppages.
"If it starts to become a bit of a trend I'd be concerned but we are winning games and the morale of the team is going pretty well... we can't complain."
Bennett said on the weekend that Tuqiri and Queensland's Sailor, both former charges at the Broncos, were wasted by rugby union and that wouldn't happen in a team he was coaching.
"Wayne probably likes to see us use our talents a bit more," Tuqiri admitted.
"We weren't seeing the ball in space a lot (in the Reds-Waratahs game) and that does get frustrating when you see the likes of some other teams throwing the ball around. But that's just the nature of the games we are playing - they are tight games.
"I've got to work within the parameters and play to our strengths. I just have to be conscious that when I do get the ball I do something with it rather than kicking it away or giving up possession with a mistake."
