Henjak 'in altercation with Tuqiri'
Wallabies management revealed on Tuesday that disgraced footballer Matt Henjak had a history of unacceptable public behaviour and a heated nightclub altercation with teammate Lote Tuqiri had played its part in the halfback being sent home.
Australian team manager Phil Thomson didn't believe a scuffle had broken out between the two players or that Tuqiri had put Henjak in a headlock at the Pulse nightclub here last Thursday.
"Lote Tuqiri did see Matt throw the contents of his drink," Thomson said.
"Lote went over to Matt and told him to pull his head in because he was acting like a goose at the time.
"They've been involved in a verbal altercation because Matt at the time was getting aggressive.
"Wendell Sailor has then seen what happened there and has diffused the situation and then taken Matt Henjak outside to calm him down.
"I don't believe there was a physical altercation at any stage between Lote and Matt Henjak."
Thomson said it was effectively the last straw for Henjak, who had a track record of doing the wrong thing in public with his provincial side, the ACT Brumbies.
"Matt does have a prior history of some incidents in public places and those were also taken into account when the decision was made to send him home," said Thomson.
Henjak will leave South Africa on Tuesday and has been ordered to seek counselling and work out "where his priorities lay".
