Shepherd charges add new Waratahs woe

Cameron Shepherd's rugby career hangs by a thread, the NSW winger charged by police with maliciously damaging a vehicle.

Police said two 21-year-olds were arrested for allegedly kicking the doors and roof of a car in the inner Sydney suburb of Pyrmont shortly after 5am and the NSW Rugby Union later issued a statement confirming Shepherd was one of the men involved. Shepherd will face a NSWRU judiciary hearing at 5.30pm Tuesday on a code of conduct charge of bringing the game into disrepute.

He also faces court with his alleged accomplice on April 11.

The incident comes as another blow to the NSWRU after Waratahs lock Justin Harrison received a three-game suspension on Sunday night for a racial slur against Cats winger Chumani Booi.

NSWRU chief executive Fraser Neill said the body would wait for Shepherd's report before considering action.

"We have a full range of options from suspensions to fines - like most things you've got to wait to get all the facts before you consider how far you are going to go with this."

"We've told him to seek legal advice, speak to his management and then file a report with us."

Neill said he would not be specifically addressing the team despite the two incidents which have detracted from the Waratahs' four-from-four start to the Super 12 season.

"I think they have been reminded more than enough with what's been going on," Neill said.

"The players have a strong leadership culture amongst themselves, they've had their own meetings about where things are headed and the consequences of this."
