I'm still in love with Bird: Milligan
Katie Milligan says she will support her NRL player boyfriend Greg Bird when he next faces court accused of glassing her in the face.
Bird, who has been stood down indefinitely as the Cronulla Sharks five-eighth, was charged last week with one count of maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm after Ms Milligan suffered cuts and a fractured eye socket when she was hit in the face with a glass.
The 24-year-old ended up in hospital after an incident at Bird's Cronulla apartment, in Sydney's south, on Sunday, August 24.
Ms Milligan has told The Daily Telegraph she's "still very much in love" with Bird and will support him in court.
"I will be supporting him in his plea," she said.
"All I can say is, I wasn't very happy with the way police handled the situation."
Ms Milligan said it was "yet to be determined" whether she would speak to police about the incident.
She declared her love for Bird.
"I want people to know that Greg and I are still very much together," she said.
"Yes, I still love him."
Bird must comply with the conditions of an interim apprehended violence order (AVO) issued during his court appearance last Monday, which forbids him from making contact with Ms Milligan.
The American law student said she planned to reunite with Bird "when all this blows over".
Bird was next due to face court on October 8, at Sydney's Downing Centre.
