Staniforth's season over after injury
Western Force winger Scott Staniforth's Super 14 season is over after injuring his neck in last week's 33-12 win over the Lions in Johannesburg.
Staniforth, who rejoined the Force earlier this season after answering an SOS call from the club as injuries mounted, has flown back to Perth from South Africa and will miss the final two games of the year against the Cheetahs and Sharks.
His loss for the remainder of the season is likely to be offset by the return of Cameron Shepherd from a quad complaint and James O'Connor from a shoulder injury.
"It's not going to affect (Staniforth's) long term playing future," RugbyWA general manager of rugby Mitch Hardy said.
"This type of injury needs some time to settle and with only a couple of games to go in the 2010 season there is no need to rush that process.
"We have the option to bring a replacement over to join the squad but at this stage it is likely that Cameron Shepherd will be available for selection, which gives us some cover in the backline."
Staniforth is eager to continue his Super 14 career next year but it's unclear whether that will be with the Force or a rival Australian franchise.
The Force have won four of their past five matches and will be looking to continue that hot form against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
