Kahlon ties with Barr at Thailand Open
India's Harmeet Kahlon claimed the joint third round lead with Australian Scott Barr after firing a five-under par 67 at the $US500,000 ($A639,304) Thailand Open.
Kahlon reached a nine-under-par 207 total despite swirling winds and bad weather that delayed play by nearly an hour.
Barr, the overnight leader who was bogey-free in his opening two rounds, fought back from a poor start to return a 74.
Filipino Angelo Que charged into a joint third place by shooting a flawless 67, one off the lead, alongside India's Jeev Milkha Singh, who signed for a 74, and Australian Scott Strange, who shot a 73.
The second round leaders endured the worst of the weather in the afternoon as strong winds saw scores shoot up. A 45-minute delay because of lightning seemed to hamper Singh and Strange, with the Indian dropping a bogey and double bogey in his last two holes.
The 34-year-old Kahlon tamed the tricky greens at the spectacular Blue Canyon Country Club course.
"I holed some good putts and read the lines well. It was a good day and I hit it reasonably well. My game is coming together over the past few months after switching coaches last August," he said, referring to Jonathan Yarwood, who also coaches Michael Campbell.
Kahlon, who had seven birdies on the card, broke into the limelight in 2002 with a home victory at the Hero Honda Masters and is eager to build his tally of wins.
After two days of near perfect golf, Singapore-based Barr gave away shots on his second and third holes. He was three over for the round through 10 before battling back with birdies on 15 and 16 and dropping his fifth bogey on the tricky par three 17th.
Singh turned in 34 before landing into all sorts of trouble at the challenging Canyon course. He had three bogeys and one double bogey at the finishing 18th hole on his inward nine.
