Moseley cards 67 at Malaysian Open
Jarrod Moseley had Saujana Club greens staff working overtime after his penultimate shot smashed into the side of the hole on the thunderstorm-affected opening day of the Malaysian Open.
The Perth golfer, along with fellow West Australian Terry Pilkadaris, carded five-under 67s in stifling conditions to end in a five-way share of second place in the co-sanctioned Asian and European Tour event.
Defending champion, Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, headed the field on eight under before a late afternoon thunderstorm forced a two-hour delay in Kuala Lumpur.
Play resumed at 6pm local time before bad light eventually halted play at 7.18pm and leaving 45 players still to complete their first round.
Moseley and Pilkadaris share second spot along with Swedish pair Niclas Fasth and Pelle Edberg and Italy's Emanuele Canonica.
A further five players - Ireland's Paul McGinley, Denmark's Thomas Bjorn, England's Simon Dyson, Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez and Thailand's Prom Meesawat - are on four under par.
The 32-year-old Moseley ended his first day in the Malaysian capital by wrecking the side of the hole after his approach shot slammed into green immediately beside the flagstick and then stopped about two feet from the hole.
"The greens staff will be cursing me as I made a real mess of the hole," said Moseley.
"The ball just caved in the side of the hole and they had a hell of a job getting it repaired so we could putt out, but then it was a great way to finish off a great round.
"I played well last week in New Zealand finishing seventh behind Niclas after having missed the cut in Melbourne."
