Charman ready to replace Lynch at Lions
Brisbane Lions AFL ruckman Jamie Charman has put his hand up to fill the giant shoes of retired full forward Alastair Lynch.
Charman said he would happily shift from his favoured ruck area into the forward pocket provided he had the blessing of Lions coach Leigh Matthews.
"It would be nice to play up forward," Charman said.
"Maybe if I get back a little earlier I could play up front (in the trials) but it all comes down to match fitness and timing.
"I don't know what Leigh's thoughts are about the situation though."
Charman joins Daniel Bradshaw on the list of possible replacements for Lynch, who called it quits at the end of last year after 19 seasons.
Charman said he would be more of a "stand and deliver" type forward and believed his big frame would provide Brisbane's dynamic midfield with a suitable target up front.
"I'd probably be a stand and deliver type (of forward) even though my speed's improved over the last couple of years," he said.
The lanky 22-year-old has had a frustrating off-season after breaking down with a serious knee injury during his side's 141-point thumping of Adelaide in round 17.
Charman's ongoing recovery will see him miss Brisbane's annual intra-club trial on Friday night as well as the Wizard Cup match against Melbourne in Cairns the following weekend.
