Lions licking wounds after drubbing
The depth of AFL talent at the Brisbane Lions may be impressive, but is about to be tested like never before.
The Lions' injury toll went from worrying to alarming after Saturday's 59-point loss to Fremantle.
Full back Mal Michael is unlikely to play this week after limping off during the first quarter with a thigh injury, and even if he can overcome that in time for next Sunday's visit of Melbourne, he could be suspended.
Michael is sure to come under the notice of the AFL's video scrutineer after appearing to deliver a punch to Freo forward Paul Medhurst.
The Lions' ruckmen continue to attract injuries, with Clark Keating re-injuring his shoulder in a seemingly innocuous attempted bump.
The Lions injury list also included big names such as Chris Scott (groin), Blake Caracella (shoulder), Alastair Lynch (ankle), Craig McRae (calf) and Darryl White (ankle).
Added to that is the suspension of key forward Jonathan Brown and ruckman Jamie Charman, who will miss the game against the Demons.
Melbourne will be without star backman Clint Bizzell for the trip north, after he suffered an eye socket and cheekbone injury that is expected to sideline him into the latter half of the season.
He received the injury from an accidental knee to the face in the win over the Kangaroos.
Richmond will hold their breath for the results of a scan on the knee of ruckman Brad Ottens.
