Lions sweating on injuries
Melbourne forward Peter Vardy and Geelong defender Brenton Sanderson have joined the round 17 casualty count for likely AFL finalists.
Vardy suffered a strained medial ligament in his right knee in the easy win over Richmond and will miss a month.
He was the obvious replacement for small forward Aaron Davey, also forced out last week for a month with a hamstring injury.
Sanderson will miss one to two weeks after hurting the medial ligament in his left knee as the Cats beat Carlton at Telstra Dome.
Saturday's big Brisbane win over Adelaide also produced the biggest injury news for the round, with ruckman Jamie Charman (knee) and Justin Leppitsch (ribs) to undergo scans on Monday.
There are fears Charman could be out of action for six weeks because of ligament damage with the finals only five weeks away.
"Until the scans are done tomorrow, there'd be just a little bit of uncertainty (as to) exactly how long we can expect to miss him," Brisbane coach Leigh Matthews told Channel Nine.
"You lose a Jamie Charman last night, all of a sudden you know one of your major strengths has been blunted - that's what happens from week to week."
The ruck is the only area of Brisbane's game that seems vulnerable at the moment as it pushes for a fourth consecutive premiership.
Clark Keating is yet to resume from a shoulder injury and Beau McDonald (knee) is out for the season.
