Love posts highest Pura Cup score
Queensland captain Martin Love posted his highest Pura Cup cricket score as his side claimed first-innings points against Victoria.
Love reached 256 on day three, beating his previous best of 228 in this competition and also his second-highest first-class score, as the Bulls reached 5-526 in reply to Victoria's 9(dec)-381.
It was the highest first-class score at the Junction Oval, beating the 249 Kepler Wessels made for the Bulls against Victoria in 1982-83.
The Bulls skipper and James Hopes shared a record fifth-wicket stand of 236 for Queensland in the Cup, beating the old mark of 231.
Part-time spinner David Hussey caught and bowled Hopes for 97.
Opener Clint Perren also just missed out on a century on Wednesday when he was dismissed for 95.
The easy scoring again raised questions about the Junction Oval wicket - only 26 domestic first-class matches at the ground have now yielded six double centuries and 23 tons.
Victoria will play Western Australia at the ground next week, while it will host all the Bushrangers' matches next season because of the MCG development.
Love's innings, his eighth first-class double century, will keep his name in front of the national selectors ahead of the home series against India.
He scored an unbeaten 100 against Bangladesh in July, but lost his middle-order spot to Darren Lehmann and has been unable to break back into the Test side since.
