Bichel wraps up Gabba final
Rampant Andy Bichel pulled off an all-round performance reminiscent of his 2003 World Cup heroics as Queensland booked a home ING Cup final next month.
The big-hearted paceman single-handedly destroyed NSW with a stunning knock of 62 before uprooting the top order as the visitors won by 121 runs at Telstra Stadium.
Bichel finished with figures of 2-11 off eight overs and the inexperienced Blues batting lineup failed to fully recover from the early carnage after being 3-8 in reply to Queensland's 4-267 off 50 overs.
The 34-year-old has not played for Australia since falling out of favour with national selectors last summer and being left without a Cricket Australia contract.
But he remains a cut above at domestic level and is the equal highest wicket-taker in the one-day competition.
His performance had shades of his match-winning deeds in Australia's great escape in a World Cup pool match in South Africa where he denied England with a peerless 7-20 and 34 not out at Port Elizabeth.
Bichel again proved his versatility by coming in at No.3 and making a half century before Clinton Perren (64no) took the long handle to stand-in skipper Stuart MacGill (0-66) late in the Bulls' innings.
Just to top off his night, Bichel then took a screamer to remove Stuart Clark (7) as NSW was dismissed for 146 to end its slim hopes of making the final.
Queensland will meet either Victoria (18 points from 8 matches), Tasmania (18 points, 7 matches) or Western Australia (16 points, 7 matches) in the ING Cup final at the Gabba on February 20.
The visiting team has won the last four domestic one-day finals, with Queensland the loser on two of those occasions at the Gabba.
