Tait leads SA to victory
Last season's easybeats South Australia upstaged defending champion Victoria by romping to a 118-run victory in their Pura Cup cricket match at the Adelaide Oval.
Emerging paceman Shaun Tait guided the inexperienced SA team, which included four debutants, to victory with match figures of 9-73 as Victoria fell well short of its victory target of 321.
Tait's performance (5-39 and 4-34) was another reminder to national selectors of his wares after being called to the Australian squad for the tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year.
It earned him the man-of-the-match award and SA captain Graham Manou conceded he might not have the 21-year-old to call on much longer.
"Something always happens when he's got the ball in his hand, but I'm not sure for how much longer I'll be able to throw him the ball to be honest," Manou said.
"If he keeps going like he is, they can't ignore him.
"Whenever you throw the ball to him in times of need he delivers and that's what you want from a premier fast bowler."
Manou paid tribute to his inexperienced team, the result showing how hard the group worked over winter and said the policy of picking players with an eye to the future was the right one.
"The pride in the red cap really showed today, the character that the guys showed was tremendous," he said.
"The guys were jumping out of their skins just to do really well."
