Lehmann sees one-day dream fade

Darren Lehmann has conceded there is no chance of him returning from injury to the Australian one-day cricket side for the current tri-series and has instead made next month's tour of Sri Lanka his focus.

Lehmann has played one Pura Cup match and two ING Cup matches for South Australia since returning from an Achilles injury and made 44 in the Redbacks' six-run ING loss to Victoria at the MCG.

But still needing another two four-day matches to build a solid base of match fitness, Lehmann is banking on the Sri Lankan tour as his next chance of playing for Australia.

"It's a case of being stronger again, there's no magical formula," said Lehmann, who hobbled into the post-match press conference.

"I'm looking at the Sri Lanka tour as a comeback.

"The Aussies are playing well in the one-day set-up and I can't see them changing that in the remainder (of the tri-series also involving India and Zimbabwe).

"So for me I just have to make sure I get right for the tour of Sri Lanka, the one-dayers and the Test series."

Lehmann said he would need the next two Pura Cup matches against Victoria - one in Melbourne starting Friday and one in Adelaide starting February 1 - to get enough match practice before a return to the national side.

He said he expected to be "pretty sore" on Monday but would be right to play the Bushrangers later this week.

"As you get older (Lehmann is 34 next month) it's a lot harder," he said.
