Reid close to Australian Open wildcard
Former junior Wimbledon champion Todd Reid continued his push towards a wildcard at next year's Australian Open by winning comfortably on day two of the training camp play-off for the country's emerging players.
Reid, the number-three seed, beat South Australian Andrew Derer 6-4 6-1 in a rain-interrupted day at Melbourne Park, with top-seed Peter Luczak beating Luke Bourgeois 6-3 6-2.
The women's draw threw up the biggest upset of the day, with West Australian Casey Dellacqua earning a hard-fought win over number three seed Monique Adamczak 6-4 1-6 6-1.
The winners of Saturday's finals earn a direct wildcard into the Australian Open.
Australia's emerging talent, hand-picked to attend the play-offs, also undergo fitness workouts, coaching sessions and seminars on a range of topics from nutrition to injury management.
In other matches, there were wins for number one women's seed Samantha Stosur and number two Christina Wheeler and number two men's seed Todd Larkham and number four seed Joseph Sirianni.
