Boomers have put Tall Blacks behind them
Coach Brian Goorjian feels the Australian men's basketball team has recovered from its recent series loss to New Zealand and is in a positive frame of mind ahead of the world championship opener against Brazil.
The Boomers will have their final full training session at Hamamatsu Arena before tackling the highly-rated Brazilians, who boast NBA players Leandro Barbaso and Anderson Varejao.
Australia lost only its second series ever to New Zealand last month, but has since improved dramatically and believes it could surprise some teams in Japan.
"New Zealand was a struggle, we were totally out of sync," Goorjian said.
"Now the training sessions are enjoyable, the guys have been enthusiastic and their spirit hasn't been broken."
The Boomers were extremely competitive in a recent warm-up event in China, defeating France and suffering slender defeats to Greece and the host nation.
Those results, as well as some intense training sessions, have given the Australians a badly needed fillip ahead of Saturday's match.
"We were down in all three games, but were able to come back," Goorjian said.
"We're going into this game (against Brazil) knowing what our style is and with a little bit more confidence."
