Parramatta beats Adelaide 2-0
Parramatta Power inflicted only the second home defeat of the season on Adelaide 2-0 to jeopardise United's top three NSL spot.
New Socceroo midfielder Ahmad Elrich latched onto a loose attempted save by Adelaide United keeper David Scarsella in the sixth minute to easily volley home his third goal of the season and set up the Power's sixth win in a row.
Leading NSL scorer Ante Milicic rubbed it in with a clinical solo goal in the 52nd minute, his 19th this season and 97th career goal in the competition.
That sealed Adelaide's first loss in four matches and ensured a possible third placing in its debut season could not be sealed until the last round this weekend.
Parramatta Power coach Nick Theodorakopoulos was ecstatic at his team's precision and tactical display leading into the finals.
"We went into the game believing we were playing Perth Glory away in a final," he said.
"I told the players I wanted them to defend strongly, absorb some pressure in front of a big crowd and pinch a goal.
"We achieved it in great style I thought," Theodorakopoulos said.
Parramatta set a new NSL goals record for a 13-team, 24-round regular season, netting 58 goals and finishing with a club record 16 wins for the season too.
"It's been a great advert for offensive football," Theodorakopoulos said.
