Wollongong snatch draw against Adelaide
Nigerian striker Chimaobi Nwagazi scored his second goal in five days to help the Wollongong Wolves continue to a 2-2 draw against Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium.
Nwagazi netted a neat 20th minute opening goal against the run of play to celebrate his 24th birthday though Adelaide stormed back after halftime to snatch a 2-1 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
However, Wolves defender Ben Blake popped up with a 90th minute header to equalise 2-2 before 9528 spectators, Adelaide's smallest home crowd in four games this season.
In between, Adelaide reeled the Wolves back in slowly but surely with centre back Michael Valkanis heading home a Goran Lozanovski free kick in the 48th minute and 20 year-old substitute Mimi Saric volleying home a neat flick on from Carl Veart for a 2-1 lead in the 81st minute.
Adelaide United started better and finished stronger after halftime, sensing the need to hit back with a home win after two losses.
However, it found Wollongong goalkeeper Andrew Crews in super touch and he foiled Lozanovski's firm 18 metre shot in the 10th minute.
He also turned a Ross Aloisi drive from 30 metres onto the post in the 54th minute and a Saric free kick away for a corner in the 74th minute.
But Blake had the last say with his timely header through a ruck of players in the Adelaide penalty area to head home the corner and continue the Wolves' resurgence.
They had beaten top sides Parramatta and Perth Glory in the past two games to revive their finals hopes.
"I'm ecstatic with the draw," said Wolves coach John Turner.
