Warne circus a virtual non-event
Day one of Shane Warne's cricket comeback started as a media circus and ended as a non-event as rain stopped play.
Warne came in at No.6, making 11 runs, and later took a good catch, but did not bowl.
The latter half of his first day back as a professional cricketer was condemned to fruitlessly waiting in the Victorian second XI dressing room.
The Junction Oval crowd swelled to more than 1000 after lunch on day two of the match against the Queensland Academy of Sport, in expectation of Warne bowling his renowned leg spin.
But Warne, whose 12-month doping ban ended at midnight on Monday night, will have to wait until Wednesday to test out his arm on the flat pitch.
Warne declined to speak and is unlikely to do so until he finally has a bowl.
The talking was left to Victorian captain Peter Roach, who said he was about to throw the ball to Warne before the rain arrived.
"Obviously we were getting hit around a little bit and we thought that Shane might be one that stemmed the tide," Roach said.
"He was on next over and the rain came.
"We were all looking forward to him having a bowl and seeing how we went, like everyone at the ground.
