Gould to compete in surf championships
Former Olympic swimmer Shane Gould will make her debut in different waters at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, racing the men at Scarborough Beach, Western Australia.
Gould, the winner of three gold medals at the 1972 Munich Olympics, will compete for the North Cronulla club in NSW in the championships starting on Tuesday.
Being one of the few women in the club's masters group, Gould has been drafted into a mixed team for the Taplin relay.
Over 6000 competitors and officials have converged on Scarborough beach for the second consecutive year with Gould one of 1300 masters.
She will combine with two-time Australian gold medallist Ian Wallace and the club's development officer Lee Howell.
Gould will contest the swimming section of the relay while the former Australian long board relay champion Wallace will paddle the board and Howell the ski.
