Parkinson draws tough heat
Australia's world No.2 Joel Parkinson has a tough draw in the third round of the Billabong Pro up against Hawaiian trials winner Conan Hayes.
Hayes defeated countryman Shane Dorian and 1999 world champion Mark Occhilupo in the first round with amazing backhand tube riding.
Parkinson outed local Vetea David on Monday, but he's never recorded a good result at this treacherous wave.
Parkinson's best mate Mick Fanning will also need to be at his best if he's to defeat Beau Emerton of the Gold Coast.
Emerton has the second highest heat score of the contest so far, and last year rode a perfect 10-point ride in three metre surf here.
In other heats last year's runner-up here Luke Egan will face Brazilian veteran Flavio Padaratz, Taj Burrow of West Australia has NSW's Shane Powell, while world champion Andy Irons of Hawaii meets local surfer Hira Teriinatoofa.
Six time world champion Kelly Slater has drawn Sydney's Richie Lovett, Dean Morrison of the Gold Coast meets Brazilian Danilo Coast - the man who eliminated Occhilupo on Monday in the second round, while Wollongong's Mick Lowe has American Pat O'Connell.
Organisers hope to complete the third round in good though inconsistent two metre surf.
Just one more day would then be needed to decide the champion.
