Australian midfielder Mile Sterjovski has completed a transfer to English Premier League side Derby after winning the necessary work permit on appeal.

Rams manager Paul Jewell was delighted at securing the services of the 28-year-old, who has played 33 matches for the Socceroos, from Turkish club Genclerbirligi following a Home Office hearing.

"We always felt we had a strong case," Jewell said.

"Mile is an international player with Champions League and World Cup experience.

"He will make a fantastic addition to the squad."

Sterjovski had already signed an 18-month deal with Derby for an undisclosed fee, but the club were forced to attend the hearing after he fell short of the criteria to gain an automatic work permit.

Derby hope to gain international clearance by midday on Friday (2300 AEDT), allowing him to take the field against Preston in Saturday's FA Cup clash.
