Derby sign Robert, agree deal for Savage
English Premier League strugglers Derby County have been busy in the transfer market, signing French winger Laurent Robert and agreeing a deal with Blackburn Rovers for Welsh international midfielder Robbie Savage.
In a statement on their website, Derby said Robert, 32, would complete his move to Pride Park.
The former Newcastle United player, without a club since leaving Levante of Spain, will sign to the end of the season subject to international clearance.
The former French international, who spent four years in England with Newcastle and had six months on loan at Portsmouth, has also played for Montpellier, Paris St Germain and Benfica.
Savage, 33, was also expected at Pride Park for talks later on Tuesday.
The midfielder, who has 39 Welsh caps, moved to Blackburn from Birmingham for STG3.1 million ($A7 million) in January 2005 and also had spells with Crewe Alexandra and Leicester City. He began his career as a trainee at Manchester United.
He has made 17 appearances for Rovers this season but lost his regular starting place in the side at the end of October.
Derby are bottom of the table having won one of their 21 league games, collecting just seven points and look certain to be relegated.
Argentine striker Emanuel Villa joined Derby from Mexican team UAG Tecos for STG2 million ($A4.5 million) on Friday while manager Paul Jewell has also completed the loan signing of former England defender Danny Mills from Manchester City.
