Barassi wants AFL inquiry as Vics fail
Football hero Ron Barassi wants to know why the powerhouse interstate clubs are blitzing Victorian AFL teams.
Barassi has called for an inquiry to unearth the reason Victoria is trailing in the AFL, despite the state giving birth to the national competition.
And the former Melbourne great said it was time the league examined why Victoria could not keep up, News Limited reports.
"I think we should look at it to see if there's a reason that means if you are not in Victoria you have got a better chance," Barassi said. "If there is a reason, we should correct it."
Sydney and Adelaide will host next week's preliminary finals.
In Perth on Friday and Saturday, Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs were eliminated from the competition.
The preliminary finalists include Sydney versus Fremantle and Adelaide versus West Coast.
Melbourne has failed to host a semi-final and preliminary final this year.
"It is not good for the game to have any one section dominating," Barassi said.
