Victory banish breakfast skipping pair
The long-term fate of Socceroos Archie Thompson and Ljubo Milicevic has been left up to their Melbourne Victory teammates after the A-League club suspended the pair indefinitely for allegedly skipping breakfast.
Thompson and Milicevic were banished from training on Monday for a breach of team rules following the team's 4-1 defeat in Adelaide on Friday night.
The Victory have refused to elaborate on the exact reasons for their immediate suspension, and it will be up to the club's leadership group to hand out punishment for the duo later this week.
But it is believed both players broke team rules involving curfews, though it is also understood they had not been drinking or involved in any anti-social behaviour.
Thompson and Milicevic are believed to have left the team hotel at some point following Friday night's match, then slept in the morning after, missing breakfast with their teammates.
The Victory immediately suspended the pair pending a decision from the club's leadership group on how the incident should be handled going forward.
While the players could decide to take a hardline stance and suspend Thompson and Milicevic for the Victory's match against Perth Glory at Telstra Dome on Sunday, a fine looms as the more likely option.
Neither player was available for comment, and neither was at the Victory's training session.
The club have also bunkered down following a miserable few days, refusing to comment publicly on the matter and ejecting media from their Olympic Park practice ground midway through Monday's training session.
The understrength Victory were torn to shreds by an equally weakened Adelaide United side on Friday night - the Reds exacting some revenge for the Victory savaging them in last season's grand final.
Both Thompson and Milicevic were in the thick of the on-field action.
Thompson scored the Victory's only goal, while Milicevic had a less successful return following six weeks out with a knee injury, netting an own goal.
