Socceroos face goalkeeping injury woes
The Socceroos may be forced to blood uncapped goalkeeper Ante Covic in their final pre-World Cup hitout this weekend as their training camp in Holland starts to resemble a hospital ward.
First-choice goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer said a shoulder injury was likely to sideline him for Sunday's match against Jamaica in London - another blow to a Socceroos side already struggling to field a backline because of injuries.
And to make matters worse, reserve goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac rolled an ankle at training on Wednesday.
Medical staff are likely to have a better idea on Thursday of whether Kalac will be able to play on Sunday, with Covic set to start if the news is bad.
"I've just started light diving, but I don't think so," Schwarzer said of his chances of playing.
"I'll try to take each step forward and hopefully the shoulder reacts well.
"This weekend is really touch and go and it could be really rushing it.
"If it was necessary, I could play. But if we can get around it, it would be better to wait until I was 100 per cent fit."
The Socceroos are already without injured centre-back Craig Moore, who hasn't played at all this season because of hamstring and back problems.
Fellow defenders Tony Popovic (calf) and Tony Vidmar (hamstring) are struggling to be fit and Ljubo Milicevic is unavailable because of his brother's wedding in Melbourne this weekend.
