Australia easily beats Indonesia
Australia overcame a sluggish opening half to defeat Indonesia 3-0 in a Boxing Day tsunami benefit match at Perth's Subiaco Oval on Tuesday night.
Striker Ante Milicic opened the scoring in the 25th minute and netted again in the 57th minute while substitute David Zdrilic added a third in the 85th minute in front of a disappointing crowd of 13,719.
The defensive frailties exposed by Iraq in Sydney on Saturday night were again on show in the opening half, with Indonesian striker Ilham Haya Kesuma nearly opening the scoring in just the second minute after the visitors easily breached Australia's offside trap.
But veteran Milicic headed home a Stan Lazaridis cross in the 25th minute to get the scoring underway and added the second from a goalmouth scramble in the 57th minute.
The home side lifted considerably in the second half, dominating possession as the match descended into a training run against an Indonesian side ranked 92nd in the world.
Elrich then grabbed a late goal five minutes from time, but there were still plenty of worrying signs as Australia prepares for a heavy schedule in the coming months including the Confederations Cup and World Cup qualifiers.
