Manly to show Peters the door

Manly will part ways with longtime media manager Peter Peters at the end of the NRL season, but the club denies the move was in response to a recent incident involving a female journalist.

Peters was stood down last week after he called Sky News reporter Megan Barnard 'a good sort' as she tried to interview Sea Eagles backrower Glenn Stewart following his judiciary hearing.

The Manly Daily reported on Monday that Peters met Sea Eagles chief operating officer David Perry and chairman and nephew Scott Penn, where a decision to end an association that stretches back to the 1960s was reached.

Perry said Peters' indiscretion involving Barnard was not behind the decision.

"That was an isolated incident but it was not the reason," Perry said.

"In isolation, it was not that bad.

"The business is under pressure financially and we are looking at going in a more contemporary direction.

"I understand why people would think he has been harshly done by."

Peters refused to be critical of the club's call to show him the door.

"I'm disappointed I'm going but I understand the club is going in a different direction," Peters said.

"It's a sad day for me ... I feel for David because he is going to get plenty (of criticism)."
