Hopoate to miss Origin III
NSW State of Origin debutant Will Hopoate looks set to miss Game III after being sidelined for up to six weeks with a hamstring tear.
The Manly young-gun sustained the injury in the Blues' series-levelling 18-8 win over Queensland on Wednesday night.
Hopoate, who leaves the Eagles next season for a two year Mormon mission, starred for the Blues in the ANZ Stadium clash, scoring a miraculous diving try in the corner, before limping off the field in the second half.
Manly coach Des Hasler said Hopoate would undergo scans on Thursday afternoon to assess the extent of the damage.
"Probably the worst case is a grade two (hamstring tear), that's what we're hoping and that could be six weeks," Hasler said on Thursday.
"It's a recurrence, but we won't know until he has the scan. We'll get those results in today."
Hasler said Hopoate's replacement against Parramatta on Monday night would be either Michael Oldfield or Michael Robertson, who will undergo a fitness test in the next few days.
He said the 19-year-old Hopoate was upbeat following the Blues win, but was disappointed he had not come through the game injury-free.
"Obliviously he's (Hopoate) in good spirits the way the side performed and the way he performed.
"We always maintained he wouldn't be out of place in that environment and that game but I know he's very disappointed about having to come off," Hasler said.
"No one in this organisation had any doubts - he's a footballer and a special one.
"It's a bit of a blow for the young fella, it's a bit of a blow for the team, but that's Origin isn't it.
"If Will's not available someone else is going to have to stand up and do the job."
