Roos queries footage for Selwood charge
Sydney's AFL premiership coach Paul Roos says he's curious how Joel Selwood was charged with a striking offence despite the poor quality of video footage available.
Geelong's Selwood has been handed a three-match ban by the AFL's Match Review Panel and risks a four-game suspension if he chooses to contest the charge at the Tribunal on Tuesday night.
One of the favourites for the Brownlow Medal, Selwood was hit with a level-five striking offence for his off-the-ball incident with Hawthorn's Brent Guerra during the last quarter of Saturday night's round-12 clash at the MCG.
Guerra suffered a perforated ear drum and left the field bleeding from the side of his head, visibly angry with Selwood.
The panel relied on testimony from Guerra, a medical report from the Hawks and video evidence in reaching the decision against Selwood, who was listed in Monday's Brownlow markets as a $10 chance as equal fourth-favourite.
Guerra has had problems with his balance and hearing since Saturday night, the Hawks said in a statement on Monday.
"I'd be interested to know as to what Guerra said," Roos told Fox Sports program On The Couch.
"You are grading an incident based on either vision or the umpire saying (something)," the 2005 premiership coach added.
"But in this case maybe it is the (Hawthorn) player.
"The smoking gun's somewhere. You can't grade it on that vision.
"So something must have happened in order for them to grade it like that."
