Guerra injury leaves Geelong nervous
A perforated ear drum to Hawthorn's Brent Guerra is cause for concern for Geelong's Joel Selwood as AFL officials gather information on the pair's off-the-ball clash.
The Hawks on Sunday said Guerra's injury, which resulted from a tangle with Selwood at the MCG on Saturday night, was causing him balance and hearing problems.
They were unsure what it would mean for the defender's chances of playing against Gold Coast in Launceston on Saturday night.
But the injury report could be bad news for Cats star midfielder Selwood, depending on whether he is found to have infringed during the incident, which occurred late in the match.
Guerra physically remonstrated with Selwood as he left the ground.
Television cameras failed to capture the scuffle.
But AFL officials were on Sunday scouring footage from the down-the-ground fixed camera they have stationed at AFL venues.
An AFL spokesman said it would be known by Monday morning whether there was footage available of the incident.
If not, it would take evidence from someone who witnessed the clash for Selwood to be charged by the match review panel on Monday.
The Hawks have indicated they are unlikely to lodge a complaint.
But evidence from an umpire or another match observer who saw the incident could still lead to a charge.
Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett might also come under scrutiny, for an elbow on North Melbourne counterpart Brent Harvey at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.
A replay showed Ablett making contact with Harvey's shoulder, but it was difficult to tell whether he also connected with the Kangaroo's face.
