Pressure the key to down Blues: Port
Port Adelaide onballer Travis Boak says Port's young midfield believe sustained pressure is key to toppling their highly rated Carlton opponents this weekend.
Port posted their second AFL win of the season with a victory over Richmond in Darwin on Saturday night, prevailing over a better credentialed Tigers' midfield group.
Boak says a similar challenge awaits when the Power host the fourth-placed Blues this Sunday.
"They are probably one of the top three midfield groups in the competition," Boak said on Monday.
"It is going to be a fantastic challenge for us ... we will probably learn a lot from (Chris) Judd and (Marc) Murphy and these sort of guys, and we're really looking forward to it.
"Obviously our group is a bit younger, but we have been working really hard over the last four of five weeks.
"And we will study the opposition as much as we can and we'll go into the game confident."
Boak said Port's morale improved at a frank meeting of players last week when the club sat on the bottom of the ladder.
"We had a little chat," he said.
"I think the boys just needed to put four quarters of effort in and we did that on the weekend.
"Our pressure acts were fantastic on the weekend ... that is what got us the result in the end.
"We have still got plenty to improve on but it's just the four quarters of footy, putting pressure on the opposition, and then our defensive work, is what is going to win us games."
