Port Adelaide promote Danny Meyer
Port Adelaide have promoted former Richmond draftee Danny Meyer from their rookie list to play in Saturday night's AFL match against the Western Bulldogs in Darwin.
And coach Mark williams has insisted that sore trio Alipate Carlile, Daniel Motlop and Robbie Gray will all be fit to take part against the high-flying `Dogs.
Meyer has made the most of his second chance in Adelaide, playing well in pre-season games before steadily working his way up the pecking order via the SANFL, and an appearance for South Australia in the state match against Western Australia.
He has now been promoted and included in place of Travis Boak, who suffered a knee injury last week against Fremantle that will keep him out of action for a month.
The Power's midfield division is looking undermanned with Chad Cornes, Shaun Burgoyne, Matt Thomas, youngster Hamish Hartlett and Boak all missing, meaning Williams must ask much of lesser lights.
"We think the Western Bulldogs are one of the outstanding teams going around," Williams said on Thursday.
"They can give you a little glimpse of an opportunity, but they work for the whole time and you have to be prepared to be able to run for the whole game.
"We'll be taking risks this week and were quite excited about our forwards. We want to get the ball in our forward line and see what they can do.
"It's a huge challenge for our midfield because the Western Bulldogs are terrific at scoring from stoppages and when it gets inside their forward 50m they're No. 1 in accuracy and scoring goals.
"The Bulldogs can play a shootout and do very well - we don't mind if its a shootout as long as we shoot better than them."
