Port players donate to reduce debt
Port Adelaide captain Dom Cassisi says no pressure was put on players to donate money to reduce the AFL club's debt.
The entire Power playing squad chipped-in a combined $55,000 as Port embarks on a campaign to reduce their $3 million debt.
The donation follows Port asking members of their 2004 premiership side to give $5000 each to the debt reduction campaign.
"No-one was forced into putting in or donating," Cassisi said on Wednesday.
"It was left up to the playing group to go away and think about it and the response has been overwhelming and everyone has contributed in some way.
"It was just up to the individual ... because everyone has got a different set of circumstances."
Cassisi hoped the player donations would unify the playing group.
"What we have done hopefully can gel us together as a plying group, we're all united in trying to help the club move forward," he said.
"Only time will tell but I'd like to think it's a significant thing that we have done."
Port has also created a foundation leaders group, with individuals donating $5000 to join.
Power president Brett Duncanson said more than 120 people had so far joined the group.
"We have still got some work to do but it's really the start of a campaign ... to clear our debt," Duncanson said on Wednesday.
