SA businessman to help Port Adelaide
One of South Australia's richest men will personally donate money to help financially-troubled AFL club Port Adelaide.
Multi-millionaire Gordon Pickard, a noted philanthropist, will personally provide funds so Port can employ more marketing staff.
The real estate developer approached Port after hearing of the club's financially perilous position.
The Power, who last year posted a $1.4 million loss, have recently been given millions of dollars of debt relief by the SANFL and a $1m grant from the AFL.
Pickard's money will be targeted at employing more marketing staff at Port to increase promotion, attendances and membership of the club.
"This investment in people will enable us to do things in 2010 and beyond that we simply have not had the staff to implement before," Port president Brett Duncanson said in a statement on Wednesday.
