More power for Port Adelaide youngsters
Port Adelaide youngsters Dominic Cassisi and Steven Salopek will be given increased responsibility in the Power midfield as the AFL premier seeks to fill the gap left by Josh Carr and Jarrad Schofield.
Coach Mark Williams said young key forward Damon White was also likely to be given more opportunity, starting with Sunday night's Wizard Cup match against Adelaide.
"There'll be some new players playing and also some players that have played a bit, but certainly weren't in the premiership side," Williams said.
"There's probably five or six of those and at this time of the year it's always important for those guys to get a go and show what they can do."
Cassisi, 22, had a breakthrough season last year, playing all 25 games, including Port's premiership, mostly as a tagger, with stints in a forward pocket.
Salopek, 19, played the first half of the season, but was then hit by illness and did not play again.
White, 21, played six matches, but could not cement a regular berth in the Port forward line, next to fellow talls Warren Tredrea and Toby Thurstans.
Williams said with Carr and Schofield both joining Fremantle, there was a big opportunity for Cassisi and Salopek.
"Certainly Carr and Schofield going puts a bit of a hole there, but we're looking for Dom Cassisi to take more of a role in that position and certainly Steven Salopek," Williams said.
"They're a couple of young guys who haven't played too much, but it's now time for them to move on."
