Don't play Didak, says Cassisi
Sturdy Port Adelaide player Domenic Cassisi conveyed his happiness at signing a new deal to keep him at the Power for a further three years.
But he stiffened noticeably when reminded of his next likely opponent - Collingwood's livewire Alan Didak, who during their last meeting escaped Cassisi's clutches for just long enough to kick a game-stealing goal for the Magpies at AAMI Stadium.
Didak is unlikely to play in the re-match at the MCG this weekend, hampered as he is by a knee injury, and Cassisi for one was not going to tow the diplomatic line about not wanting to see anyone injured.
"I'm thinking about (last year's game) now that you said it, yeah," Cassisi said.
"He's a great player, and one of those guys who only needs a few touches and turns them into goals, it was just unfortunate he got that opportunity late in the game.
"So he's definitely an important player for them, and if he doesn't play it's probably a good thing for us."
Cassisi's contract signing was proof positive of his happiness at Alberton and he looked genuinely surprised when reminded the deal would see him into a 10th year at the club.
"Definitely doesn't feel like seven years, so definitely feels like I'm having a good time, enjoying it, and time's flying," he said.
"I'm happy to get it out of the way so early in the year and playing good footy, getting some runs on the board."
Port spent longer than usual analysing Saturday's loss to a smarter Adelaide in the SA showdown, Cassisi saying the game was useful as a case study for what other clubs would do in their efforts to curb Port's blistering pace.
"Clubs definitely do a lot of research on other teams and they'd have identified that pace is the key to our gameplan, but we know we can win the hard ball," he said.
"Our hard ball gets and tackles are up, so we know they'll try to smother us, but we've got things in place to counter that."
