WAFL to change rules after Kerr elbow
Daniel Kerr's unpunished elbow to the face of a rival WAFL player has seen the West Australian Football League amend their rules in order to protect the integrity of the competition.
The WAFL will now have the power to lodge a notice of investigation into any on-field incident they believe warrants a closer look, meaning any misdemeanour not seen by the umpires or reported by either side can still be referred to the tribunal.
The change, which takes effect immediately, can be put down to Kerr, who was captured clearly by TV cameras last week elbowing Claremont's Luke Blackwell off the ball.
Because the umpires missed the incident and Claremont didn't want to submit a notice of investigation, Kerr was left with no case to answer.
The WAFL was unimpressed over the incident and changed the ruling after all nine WAFL clubs endorsed the policy amendment.
