Lyon out of NSW team, Josh Morris in
NSW centre Jamie Lyon has been ruled out of next week's third State of Origin clash in Brisbane after sustaining an ankle sprain in Manly's 19-12 win over the Bulldogs on Monday.
The 27-year-old will be replaced by young Bulldogs centre Josh Morris, who has been recalled to the squad after playing the last 20 minutes of the second match of the series in Sydney.
Lyon hasn't decided if he will continue playing representative football after saying earlier this year he only wanted to concentrate on playing for Manly.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed being involved - it would have been good to get a couple of wins but the camps have been great and the boys have got on well," he told AAP.
"I haven't really thought too much about whether I will carry on.
"I'm getting a bit older now, I suppose we will have to see."
Morris, 22, has been in fine form since moving to the Bulldogs from St George Illawarra at the end of last season.
He will take the Bulldogs' contingent in the Blues squad to three and will line-up alongside Brett Kimmorley, who has been recalled after four years away from Origin, and debutant hooker Michael Ennis.
Kimmorley has backed Morris to deliver against the Maroons and said having a taste of the action in game two will be invaluable experience.
"He's in great form and he's been playing consistently well," he said.
"He's scored a lot of tries for us and he didn't get much game time in game two but he's had a taste of it.
"Being given another opportunity I'm sure he'll take it.
"If we're going to play some (more expansive) footy, that will suit him."
Manly prop Josh Perry says his recall for the NSW team after a six-year absence tops off a magnificent 18 months.
Perry has been picked in the Blues side for next Wednesday's clash in Brisbane at the expense of Brent Kite and he admitted he felt for his Sea Eagles teammate, who was axed after an ineffectual series.
"I was obviously really pleased for myself to get back into the Origin team, but at the same time, I did feel a bit sorry for Brent, but he was really good about it and wished me luck," Perry told AAP.
Since the 28-year-old's move to Manly from Newcastle, where he was deemed surplus to requirements by coach Brian Smith at the end of the 2007 season, he has won a premiership and played for Australia.
But he thought he may not get a chance to add to his single Origin appearance.
"At times I think it may have passed me by but you never give up hope and I am stoked to be here and can't wait for next Wednesday week," he said.
"It was the best thing that happened to me getting out of Newcastle and my comfort zone and I have won a premiership and a Kangaroos jersey and now I'm back in a Blues jersey. It doesn't get any better."
Perry will be joined in the side by fellow returnees Brett Kimmorley, back at halfback for the first time since 2005, and Penrith lock Trent Waterhouse, who will face the Maroons after a five-year absence.
Waterhouse has been rewarded for his strong form for the Panthers this season and he is determined to make the most of his opportunity.
"There was always a bit of hope there if you're playing good footy - you'd love to get a start," Waterhouse said.
"There's so many good backrowers running around it's tough to get a start - I'm getting a chance now so I have to grab it with both hands for sure."
Young Canberra forward Tom Learoyd-Lahrs admitted he feared missing his Origin debut after being put on report for using his elbow in the Raiders' win over Gold Coast at the weekend.
However, he was cleared by the NRL judiciary on Monday to ensure he will be able to take his place on the NSW interchange bench in Brisbane.
"I was worried there for a while but once I saw the video of the incident I was very confident I would be OK, but there is always a bit of doubt in your mind, so it was good to get the all-clear," he said.
The 24-year-old second rower is relishing the chance to make his first appearance in the Blue jersey at Suncorp Stadium, where he started his career with Brisbane.
"It is a great place to play footy and I have played at Suncorp a number of times and it is the best stadium to play at," he said.
"I had a taste of the build-up for the second game but did not make the 17 and now I am part of it again and knowing I will be involved is so exciting.
"And the fact it is in Brisbane makes it extra special, I couldn't ask to play anywhere better."
