Josh Morris eyes right side for Roos
Canterbury centre Josh Morris says he's more than willing to switch to right centre if it means snaring an Australian berth left vacant by injured Brisbane pair Israel Folau and Justin Hodges.
Morris firmed into reckoning for a start in the May 7 Test against New Zealand in Melbourne after Folau suffered a compound fracture to his finger which is set to sideline the Broncos star for six weeks.
The injury also opened up the possibility of two of the hottest tryscorers in the league - Josh and twin brother Brett - being re-united in the green and gold.
Just hours after Folau went down, Josh Morris bagged four tries in a massive win over the Sydney Roosters to remind Test selectors that all was not lost with Folau joining Hodges (Achilles) on the sidelines.
But with Greg Inglis seemingly having a mortgage on left centre, it appears Josh will have to switch sides to the right to get a run, with Penrith speed machine Michael Jennings and 19-Test veteran Brent Tate also in contention.
"Greg's a great player ... you're certainly doing well if you can tip him out of (left centre)," said Josh, who played his one and only Test against France on last year's Four-Nations tournament.
"But you'd take a spot anywhere in that side at the moment and if I get picked in that right centre I'd definitely be up for the challenge.
"It's not that big a move - I played right wing and bit of right centre at the Dragons and I was comfortable there.
Morris' Bulldogs coach Kevin Moore said the 23-year-old was adaptable enough to switch sides, urging representative selectors not to pigeon-hole the NRL's leading try-scorer as a left-sided option only.
"He's a smart enough footballer Josh, he can play either side of the field," Moore said.
"He's obviously found a niche for himself on the left but good footballers can play anywhere and he's a good footballer.
"If I was a selector I'd have no hesitation in swapping him over to the right-hand side."
Morris' possible elevation to the Test squad could reunite him with twin brother Brett, with the duo both likely to be squeezed over to the right to accommodate Inglis and Jarryd Hayne.
The pair played against France together but Josh said playing at home would be an unforgettable experience.
"Brett got leading tryscorer in the Four Nations - he was on fire and played really well so he's certainly put his best foot forward," Josh said.
"He'll want to keep his spot.
"I know that playing with Brett against France was a memory I'll never forget and certainly it would be great to do it on home soil.
"Hopefully being on that tour has helped my chances."
