Manly quartet get Kangaroos call-up
North Queensland-bound centre Brent Tate has joined four Manly players in being added to the Kangaroos train-on squad ahead of next month's Four Nations rugby league tournament.
Sea Eagles skipper Jamie Lyon along with teammates Jason King, Brent Kite and Anthony Watmough were all named to join the initial 18 players selected in the squad from teams that failed to make the NRL finals.
Manly's NRL campaign ended on Sunday when they were beaten 28-0 by minor premiers St George Illawarra, while Tate's stint with the Warriors came to a shock end when they were bundled out of the finals following their 28-16 loss to Gold Coast on Friday night.
Tate, who will return to Queensland to link up with the Cowboys in 2011, has not played for Australia since the 2008 World Cup.
But with the likes of Justin Hodges having not played at all in 2010, Greg Inglis and Josh Morris in extreme doubt to play in the tournament due to injury and Israel Folau headed to AFL, Australian selectors face a dearth of options in the centres.
The train-on squad will gather in Sydney on Wednesday for a medical, with more players to be added as teams drop out of the finals series.
