Two special fans to see Lockyer's 300th
Darren Lockyer's two biggest fans, his mother Sharon and wife Loren, will be in the Newcastle stands when the champion playmaker celebrates his 300th NRL game on Saturday night.
Brisbane will fly them both to Newcastle to share the emotion of Lockyer's big day when he becomes only the fifth player in rugby league history to play 300 games for one club.
"The Broncos are shouting his wife and his mum down," Broncos boss Bruno Cullen told AAP.
Brisbane are currently deep in negotiations with the 31-year-old five-eighth, who's played at the club since joining them as a shy teenager from Roma.
Cullen said the club would make a special presentation to Lockyer in front of his home fans at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday week following their clash with reigning premiers Manly.
"It will probably be after the game because Locky is not one for doing things before a game," said Cullen.
"He'll wear a special edition jumper this weekend against the Knights."
Cullen said he couldn't think of a more deserving person to be the first to reach 300 NRL games for the Broncos.
"He's stayed with us all the way through and he wants to stay with us even longer which is great," said Cullen.
"We're talking 300 NRL games, he's played a lot more than that if you include his Origins (27) and Tests (45) and World Club challenge games.
"He's probably getting up to around 400 which is quite remarkable."
