Lockyer says Kiwis have wood over 'Roos
Australian captain Darren Lockyer says New Zealand have the wood over the Kangaroos, and he's preparing for a tough farewell to international rugby league on home soil.
Lockyer said he doesn't expect a fairytale finish to his Test career in Australia, but a win over the Kiwis in Newcastle on October 16 would close that chapter on a high.
The Brisbane, Queensland and Kangaroos legend admits that going out a winner at home will be no easy task after New Zealand won last year's Four Nations as well as the 2008 World Cup.
Lockyer confirmed that he's available for the subsequent Four Nations series in England, which would be his final farewell to the game.
"While it (the Test in Newcastle) is not part of the Four Nations there is a big rivalry between the two countries," Lockyer said at the launch of the Newcastle Test on Tuesday at Ausgrid Stadium.
"New Zealand has the wood on us. We want to get away to a positive start.
"For me it (the October Test match in Newcastle) will officially be my last game in Australia ever."
Lockyer said the 2004 Tri-Nations win over England and the golden point Tri-Nations win over New Zealand in Sydney in 2006 were the highlights of his Kangaroos career in Australia.
