Lockyer back for trial against Storm
Brisbane skipper Darren Lockyer will kick-start his 2009 campaign when he leads a powerful Broncos line-up into Saturday night's Sunshine Coast trial against Melbourne.
Both clubs released squads on Tuesday packed with internationals, Lockyer to be joined by former Bronco Mick DeVere, who will make his return to the game after hanging up the boots in 2006.
Melbourne have named 10 players with Test experience in their 22-man squad, with Cameron Smith named at hooker despite his flirtation at five-eighth last week.
"This is our final trial before the NRL season starts and we always intended to field our strongest possible side," Storm coach Craig Bellamy said.
DeVere gets his opportunity in the centres with Justin Hodges - who is expected to miss the first few rounds of the NRL following shoulder surgery - absent, while Gerard Beale will fill-in for the injured Karmichael Hunt at fullback.
South Sydney and St George Illawarra also named full-strength sides for the Charity Shield match-up at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night, with Rabbitohs skipper Roy Asotasi to play his first game of the pre-season.
With former Test utility Craig Wing still unavailable due to injury, Issac Luke will start the game at hooker with John Sutton and Chris Sandow in the halves.
Sydney Roosters coach Brad Fittler will give Setaimata Sa a crack at the vacant No.6 jumper against Parramatta on Saturday night, while Shaun Kenny-Dowall comes onto the wing.
Sa will go up against Jarryd Hayne at Campbelltown Stadium, Hayne set for a tougher examination of his ability at five-eighth given regular halfback Brett Finch has been rested for the Eels' final trial.
Kris Keating comes into the side for Finch with skipper Nathan Cayless selected to play his first game of the season.
William Zillman will wear the No.1 jumper when Gold Coast play the Warriors in Lismore on Saturday night, regular custodian Preston Campbell joining halfback Scott Prince in being rested by coach John Cartwright.
