Fa'alogo beats NRL striking charge
South Sydney have received a boost in their bid to keep their faint finals hopes alive with backrower David Fa'alogo cleared to play the New Zealand Warriors on Saturday after beating a two-game ban.
The Kiwi international was found not guilty at the NRL judiciary after the Rabbitohs successfully argued against his striking charge for using an elbow while being tackled in last weekend's loss to Newcastle.
Fa'alogo has little to lose by fronting the judiciary given the Kiwi international was facing a two-match ban whether he took the early plea or not.
He had been charged with a grade one offence, but loading from two prior offences - including a seven-week striking ban last year which carried over to the opening five rounds of the 2008 season - and 30 carry-over points bumped the penalty up to a two-match ban.
"In the end we're very happy," Rabbitohs coach Jason Taylor told rugbyleaguelive.com.
"We got a good hearing.
"It's a body-contact sport, rugby league, and in the end it was a good decision."
The Rabbitohs sit six points outside the top eight in 14th spot after back-to-back loses, and would likely have to win all six of their games to stand a chance of making the finals.
