Reilly, Douglas ready for return in AFL
Adelaide runners Brent Reilly and Richard Douglas seem ready to make a well-timed return for the Crows' weekend visit to play West Coast on the wide expanses of Subiaco Oval.
Reilly, Douglas and the rest of the Adelaide squad trained on Wednesday away from their West Lakes base, choosing to hold their main session at Woodville Oval, home of the SANFL Eagles.
The choice of venue was made for the ground's similarity in size and shape to Subiaco, known as the longest of AFL grounds.
"The main reason behind coming here is because the dimensions of the ground are similar to that of Subiaco, so were just getting a feel for it before the game," ruckman Ivan Maric said.
"Subiaco is a little bit different - when you go forward, the gap between the 50m arc and the square is a bit bigger and if you're not used to it I suppose it could cause some problems.
"I think our record over there is about three wins in ten years, so I don't think we'll be going over there overconfident or expecting an easy win."
This year's training at the Crows has been punctuated by numerous innovations, from the use of a faux halftime break to prepare mentally for the third quarter of a game, to last week's trial of the new interchange restrictions.
On Wednesday the experiment was more aesthetic in nature, as several players tested out a new figure hugging guernsey expected to be used by several clubs in 2009.
Similar in style to those commonly seen in Rugby Union, the jumpers are meant to make players far more difficult to tackle.
"That's the new jumper for next year," Maric said.
"It's going to be a bit tighter, like in the rugby, so going to be harder to tackle - that's the idea behind it anyway."
