Luczak bows out after battle with Agassi
Rising Australian tennis player Peter Luczak did his best but he could not stop world No.2 Andre Agassi from winning in the American champion's 1,000th match on the men's tour.
Luczak fought hard but eventually went down 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 in the second round of the Stella Artois Championships at the Queen's Club in west London.
The 23-year-old, ranked 133rd, managed to turn what promised to be a walkover into a tight contest in the traditional grass court warm-up for Wimbledon.
He saved three break points in his first service game before finally capitulating.
But with Agassi leading 3-1 and apparently headed for a whitewash, Luczak fought back and broke the veteran's serve with a stunning forehand winner.
Serving at 4-5, he saved two set points to level the scores at 5-all, then saved another set point during the tie-break before Agassi triumphed.
Agassi again grabbed an early break in the second set and gave the Australian no chances on his serve to grab a straight sets win.
After the match, Agassi began to set out on a lap of honour before pretending that his 33-year-old legs weren't up to it.
Earlier, former junior champion Todd Reid scored his first win on the men's tour to go through to the second round.
Reid, the reigning Wimbledon boys' champion, beat Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 6-3 7-5 for his first win in seven attempts on the senior circuit and admitted it was a weight off his mind.
