Scud bombs out at Queens
Rising Australian tennis star Peter Luczak set up the biggest match of his career when he booked a second-round battle with Andre Agassi at the Queen's Club in west London.
Luczak's 6-3 4-6 6-2 win over Vladimir Voltchkov of Belarus was the sole bright spot for the Australians, with Mark Philippoussis, Wayne Arthurs and Scott Draper all crashing out of the Wimbledon warm-up tournament in the first round.
Philippoussis lost a battle of the big serves with former Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek, going down 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 in his first match on grass this year, Draper bowed out 6-4 6-4 to Frenchman Cyril Saulnier, while a bitterly disappointed Arthurs was considering retirement after his 6-4 7-6 (10-8) loss to France's Anthony Dupuis.
But Luczak, ranked 133rd in the world, showed his potential with his win over the world No.67 and was looking forward to playing Agassi, a personal hero, on Tuesday afternoon.
"It's an honour for me to play Andre. I can't wait," Luczak said.
Luczak, 23, was growing up in Melbourne when he first saw Agassi play.
His father let him stay up to the French Open, where he saw the American playing Swedish champion Mats Wilander.
"First time I saw him play, it was on TV, he still had his long hair," Luczak said.
"I don't know how old Andre was but he looked pretty young. I remember staying up until two, three in the morning. Dad let me stay up to watch those matches.
"He's one of my heroes. He's probably the most known guy on the tour in the public eye. You see him everywhere, on posters, on TV commercials, so I really can't wait."
