Kiwi decks bare-footed Queenslander
New Zealand professional heavyweight boxer Shane Cameron has made short work of his Australian opponent Shane Norford.
Cameron knocked out Norford two minutes 39 seconds into the second round to extend his unbeaten record to five bouts since turning professional after winning a bronze medal at last year's Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Feilding-based Cameron, 26, sized up his rival in the first round before finishing him off with a left and right combination, then another right over the top.
"It would have been nice to do a few more rounds but Im not complaining," Cameron said.
"You never complain when you knock them out early."
Norford, 32, of Queensland, took off his boxing boots and socks and fought in bare feet.
In a support bout, Christchurch's Patrick Mills lost a unanimous points decision to West Coast's Kelly McBride over four rounds.
It was Mills' professional debut and first ring appearance for eight years, after 34 amateur bouts, and he announced his retirement afterwards.
Wellington southpaw Carl Saltmarsh competed twice in the six amateur bouts, outpointing Yanislav Atanasov 17-7 in the opening event but losing just as decisively to another Cantabrian, Carl Commons, 8-19, 1-1/2 hours later.
