No second prize for Black
Alan Black has been sacked as coach of the Perth Wildcats following his team's NBL grand final loss to the Sydney Kings last Sunday.
Black guided the Wildcats to the championship in the 1999/00 season but Cats management told him this afternoon his services would not be required next season.
A shocked Perth assistant coach Mike Ellis confirmed the Cats had not made Black another offer.
"They have opted not to re-sign but no replacement has been sought," Ellis said.
Black has coached Perth over two stints and the team has never failed to make the playoffs during his reign.
The Cats ended the regular season with a 22-8 record - equal best in the NBL with Sydney - and lost just one game at home in that time.
But the post-season had its fair share of dramas with Adelaide recovering from a 26-point deficit to defeat the Cats at Challenge Stadium in game two of the series.
The Cats managed to bounce back from the loss and win the series.
But after ruthlessly disposing of Wollongong to make the best-of-three grand final, the Cats choked again.
This time the team let slip a 14-point edge with six minutes to play against the Kings in Sydney.
